Rock Hall of Fame Screws It Up Again

So the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2017 inductees have been announced, and jeff-lynneonce again the Hall of Fame folks have somehow screwed it up again. This year’s members include Joan Baez, Journey, Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Yes, and the Electric Light Orchestra. While you might think I would be thrilled at the ELO recognition, I am most certainly not. Here’s why . . .

Listen, ELO was great, but ELO was basically a one man band, and that man was Mr. Jeff Lynne. Sure, Bev Bevan, Kelly Groucutt and the rest were fine, but only long-time keyboardist Richard Tandy still performs with Jeff Lynne. The rest were role players and nothing more.

Jeff Lynne was the creative genius and heart and soul of ELO, and that combined with what he accomplished after ELO makes him Hall of Fame worthy. Consider the following:

Notice how much Jeff Lynne accomplished after the Electric Light Orchestra?

Bottom line? It’s Jeff Lynne’s total body of work that his Hall of Fame worthy, not just his ELO work. The other members of the band don’t belong in the Hall, Jeff Lynne does because of his work as the sole creative genius behind ELO and all of his work since then.

Come on, Rock Hall of Fame. Get it right for once!

Gimme a holler.
