Incredible Photo of the Day: Caiman’s Crown of Butterflies

Posted: September 16, 2016 in Animals, Great Photographs, Nature, Things I Love

Photographer Mark Cowan was travelling through the Amazon studying reptile and amphibian diversity when he stumbled upon this sight – a caiman wearing a crown of butterflies. However, that’s not the unusual part. The phenomenon where butterflies perch on reptiles and drink their tears full of a much-needed mineral for survival, salt, is not uncommon. The unusual thing about this photo is how the butterflies organize themselves into three groups of different species. Don’t see that everyday. That’s cool, man.

Gimme a holler.
