Ever heard of the Wilhelm Scream? I’m guessing you haven’t heard of it, but I can also guarantee you’ve heard it many, many times.

The Wilhelm Scream is a stock sound effect that has been used in more than 500 movies ans television shows, beginning in 1951 for the film Distant Drums as well as a lot of George Lucas movies. Crazy, huh? The scream is usually used when someone is shot, falls from a great height, or is thrown from an explosion.

Fun fact: The Wilhelm scream is voiced by none other than Sheb Wooley, the singer who sang the 1958 novelty hit “Purple People Eater.” The world is a wild and unpredicable place, amirite?

Gimme a holler.
